The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, has said that the Operation ‘Green Sweep,’ recently introduced by the Nigerian Air Force, is designed for the final humiliation of the remnants of boko haram terrorists in the northeast and its environs.
The Air Chief stated this in Maiduguri on Saturday, during his operational visit for a special brief from the Airmen and Airwomen fighting insurgency under the headquarters of the Air Task Force Nigerian Air Force, Maiduguri.
He said that under the operation, which has no time frame, the Nigerian Air Force fighter jets will continue the bombardment of boko haram terrorists, until they are brought down to their knees.
“Operation Green Sweep is going on very well from the brief I have been given by my personnel. The operation, which has no time frame, will continue until we are satisfied that we have fully achieved the objective of the operation which is to further degrade boko haram, and make it difficult for the terrorists to have the freedom of acting from where they are.
‘‘From the targets, we have selected and the ones we attacked, I think we have substantially achieved what we set out to achieve.
“Notwithstanding the achievements, the operation will continue to support the land forces of Operation Lafiya Dole as well the Multinational Joint Taskforce (MNJTF) in ending insurgency in the Lake Chad region.
“Everything that is required for the operation is on ground. The fuel, the pilots as you can see are here in their numbers,” Abubakar said.
He then inspected some completed and ongoing projects by NAF in the Headquarters Air Taskforce, Nigerian Air Force, Maiduguri, which include; crew and briefing rooms for pilots, Air Taskforce office under construction, accommodation for airmen and women, among others.
