The Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, has further stressed the need for youths to ensure they continue to strive to contribute to the growth and uplift of the country through the various programmes and platforms designed for nation building.
He stated this at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘C’ stream II orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) held at the temporary orientation camp in Okada, Edo State yesterday.
The governor who was represented by the commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mika Amenokhae who also doubles as the chairman, NYSC Governing Board said that the Edo State government has always supported the NYSC scheme because it stresses the need for an all inclusive national unity and integration which is relevant in the life cycle of the nation.
“The scheme has exposed millions of youths to the culture and traditions of our pluralistic societies. Its attractiveness to the Nigerian youth has continued to swell up despite many challenges especially insecurity; but count yourselves lucky for being mobilised for this noble and elite programme,” he said.
He further assured the corps members of the peaceful nature of Edo people urging them to feel free to relate with locals, stating that they are lucky for being posted to Edo State.
The Edo State NYSC state coordinator, Mr Adebayo Ojo in his speech disclosed that a total of 1,543 corps members consisting of 793 males and 750 females were duly registered for the programme. He also said that after the orientation exercise, precisely on the 5th of December, corps members will be posted to specific areas of critical needs for the enhancement of rural healthcare, delivery, education, rural infrastructure and agriculture developments in the various parts of the state for their national service.
