Igbo Group Endorses PMB For Second Term

The national leadership and Board of Trustees of Igboezue Cultural Advancement Initiative has endorsed the reelection of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 general elections, President Muhammadu Buhari for second term.

The group said it arrived at this decision after meetings and extensive consultations and liaison with extant Igbo associations, institutions and stakeholders on the state of the Igbo Nation in Nigeria.

National leader, Igboezue Cultural Advancement Initiative, Chief Chekwas Okorie made the position of the group known in a press conference in Enugu, yesterday. He revealed that after deep analysis and wide consultations, Igboezue has resolved to collaborate with the United Progressive Party (UPP) to chart the political way forward for Ndigbo in Nigeria.

“Consequently, Igboezue is in total agreement with UPP in its revolutionary agenda as encapsulated in the party’s manifesto and  objective principles of its constitution concerning restructuring, self-determination of Nigerian ethnic nationalities, referendum, devolution of power, state police and community policing, unconditional release of prisoners of conscience etc. While holding these principles sacrosanct, we also align with UPP in its wise decision to endorse and adopt President Muhammadu Buhari as presidential candidate for the 2019 election”, the group said.

It promised to do everything within its power to ensure that Ndigbo do not put their political eggs in one basket either now or in the future.

“We shall work for the completion of President Buhari second term in office in order to pave the way for a patriotic Igboman or woman to be elected President of Nigeria in 2023,” it added.

It said that four more years of President Buhari’s government is by far better and more bearable than the possible eight years of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar administration, which will bring back to “our people the sad memories of 16 years of PDP emasculation of Ndigbo. We are conscious of the truth that the PDP has not made any form of commitment to the restructuring of Nigeria or the much-desired Igbo President of Nigeria any time in the future. Anything the party says now will definitely be an after-thought. Ndigbo be wise.”

Igboezue said that it is resolutely committed to joining hands to mobilise all extant Igbo associations nationwide to reposition Igbo political engagement with the rest of Nigeria.

“The Igbo political narrative must change for the better. We cannot continue to blame others for obviously self-inflicted injuries. In this political game, Ndigbo must move some of their leaders out of our unviable defensive wall to build up the mid-field and to score vital political goals. The time is now,” it noted.
