The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through the Parks and Recreation department, has threatened to withdraw the operating license of any garden operator that continues to violate the rules and regulations for operating parks and gardens in the FCT.
In an interview with LEADERSHIP, in his office at the weekend, the director of Parks and Recreation department, Arc Ali Ukele, stated the department would not hesitate to revoke the allocation of such an operator.
Ukele maintained that the department has noticed a lot of violations on the activities of garden operators in the territory, especially on noise pollutions and all sorts of activities around the gardens.
“We have noticed a lot of infractions on the part of garden owners, especially noise and all sorts of activities around the gardens. We have drawn the attention of the operators and we have gone on air and also in the print media on these issues.
We are warning the owners that we would not hesitate to withdraw their licenses if they continue to violate the rules and regulations for operating parks and gardens in the FCT. We can also revoke the allocation of the operators.”
The director also frowned at the manner in which some FCT residents engage in indiscriminate planting and cutting of trees in parts of the territory, without consulting the department.
He warned that the department would continue to arrest and prosecute people found cutting down trees in the FCT, adding that the office has arrested many people over the offence, within the last one year.
“You see, people don’t want to stick to the regulations. Anything vegetation and the green areas, you must come to parks and recreation department to take permission, before planting or cutting any tree. This is to allow us to go there and do it professionally. But, many people don’t do that, rather they prefer to take the laws into their hands.”
