Kogi Workers Seek Last Tranche Of Bailout Funds

The Trade Union Congress (TUC), Kogi State chapter has appealed to the federal government to, in the interest of civil servants release the balance of N30 billion bailout funds to the state government in order to update workers’ salaries and other allowances.

The state chairman of the congress, Comrade Ojo Runti made the appeal while speaking to newsmen on the commencement of the table payment for pensioners in Lokoja on Monday.

According to him, the over N30billion unreleased bailout funds would go a long way in settling all entitlements owed civil servants up to date. He commended Governor Yahaya  Bello for the efforts made so far to pay the arrears.

“When the balance of the bailout funds is released, it will bring a lasting end to salary and pension crisis in the state. We are appealing to Governor Bello not to relent or be tired of pushing forward to ensure that the balance was paid to make workers happier,” he noted.

He also appealed to civil servants in the state not to be perturbed as happy days are already with them, stressing that efforts are being intensified by government to put the challenges of salaries payment behind the present administration.

The TUC chairman adjudged the table payment exercise as the most successful and transparent in recent times, saying the exercise has succeeded in correcting abnormalities associated with the previous screening exercises in the state.

According to him “Pensioners are going through a crisis free exercise. Ministries and parastatals , MDAs are happy. They have gotten their cheques. We are praying that the governor should have access to more funds, so that we can take care of our children’s school fees and other vital financial obligations. Those who are yet to get their cheques should be calm and exercise patient, it is as a result of sorting and it will get to them very soon.”

Comrade Runti who is also a member of the table payment committee said the approval Governor Bello gave some civil servants speaks volume of his kindheartedness, adding that the entitlements of those workers would be paid in full.
