US-Based NGO Lifts 43 Ogoni Children With Free Textbooks

A United States of America (USA)-based nongovernmental organization, the Evelyn Empowerment Initiative (EEI), has donated school textbooks worth over N100,000 to 43 pupils of Morning Star Nursery & Primary School, Bane in Khana local government area of Rivers State.

Speaking during the presentation, Founder of EEI, Dr. Evelyn Senewo, said the gesture was part of the organization’s 2019 community engagement in Ogoniland of Rivers State.

Senewo stated that the main aim of the organization is to promote opportunities for sustained economic, educational and social-cultural development for children, youths, and women in Ogoniland.

She said EEI provided financial support amounting to more than Three Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N325,000) to Ogoni women small business entrepreneurs.

The founder said: “In 2017 and 2018, the organization provided financial support amounting to more than Three Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand Naira (N325,000) to Ogoni women small business entrepreneurs.

“Future EEI community engagement and developmental programmes include: Career/technical training scholarship for youths and women.

“Group-based Micro-Finance training/ opportunities for youths and women in Ogoniland.

“Creating a platform for social interaction, networking and discussion on issues relevant to Ogoni women and youths.”
