The Nigerian Army has introduced a new operation, Egwu Eke 111, to complement the existing Operation Sharar Daji and Operation Mesa in Katsina State.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the new operation, the chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai, represented by the Commander of the 8th Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Stephen Olabanji, said the operation has become imperative in the face of recent security challenges facing the state and the country at large.
Buratai further said the kidnapping, armed banditry and cattle rustling among others are part of the major issues to be tackled in earnest and called on the state government not to relent in its continued support and assistance to the combined operation of army and no fewer than five security agencies including customs, police, NDLEA and Civil Defense in the state.
Also speaking, Governor Aminu Bello Masari, assured the continued determination of his administration in giving all the necessary support and cooperation for the officers and men to succeed.
Represented by the secretary to the government of the state, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, the governor appealed to the army and security operatives to join hands with the state government in tackling the menace of insecurity in the state.
Masari commended the Federal Government for introducing the additional operation in the state and assured of the state government’s commitment toward the success of the operations.
The Commander of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Katsina, Brig Gen Omoniyi, assured of the determination of the newly launched operation in tackling the security challenges facing the state.
The highpoint of the launch was an “Assessment Conference on the International Cooperation Between Nigerian Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Niger Republic on the on-going Operation Saharan Daji.”
