Barber, 20, Docked For Attempt To Escape From Police Cell

A 20-year-old barber, Tosin Olaniran, who allegedly broke police cell in a bid to escape from custody was docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Olaniran of No. 26 Ajisegiri St., Shogunle in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of breach of peace and wilful damage.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrich Nomayo, said the accused committed the offences on Jan. 25 at 1.00a.m at Shogunle Police Station in Oshodi.

Nomayo said the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by attempting to escape from lawful custody.

According to him, the accused wilfully damaged the cell wall tiles valued at N150, 000.

Olaniran, however, denied the charges when read to him in court.

The offences violated Sections 350 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).

Recall that Section 350 provides two years jail term for willful damage, while Section 168 prescribes six months imprisonment for breach of peace.

The Magistrate, Mr T.A Ojo, admitted the accused to bail of N20, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Ojo said that the surety must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 26 for mention. (NAN)
