#NigeriaDecides2019: Shettima Salutes Defiant Maiduguri Residents For Voting En mass Despite B’Haram Threats.

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has on Saturday expressed satisfaction with massive turnout of voters despite the morning explosions that rocked the capital city.

Shettima stated this yesterday shortly after casting his vote at Alhaji Kukawa polling unit in Lamisula Jabbamari ward in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The governor who is vying for the Borno Central senatorial seat at the National Assembly urged voters to remain peaceful and vote candidates of their choice.

“I was filled with a great deal of exhilaration, most importantly, residents massively coming out to exercise their rights despite the threats by the Boko Haram terrorists in choosing their next crop of leaders.

“Honestly, I feel happy for mass of humans that turned out to vote. I urge electorate to vote candidates of their choice.

“If elected a senator, I will continue focus on the reconstruction, rehabilitation and ressettlement of the communities ravaged by the Boko Haram terrorists and ensure that the people that are still in camps are returned back to their communities. My prayer is for the coming after as governor to continue from where I stopped in the reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement programme.

“I must say that the process today is far better than in 2015. While it took me 15 minutes to get accreditation and voted in 2015, in the 2019, it only took me 3 minutes. I must commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their efforts so far, even though the process is still ongoing.

“The Boko Haram terrorists wanted to disrupt the election, but the defiant people of Borno said no to the madness and went ahead exercise their franchise,” Shettima said.

Meanwhile, the Borno state police Command has confirmed Boko Haram terrorists attempt to cause havoc during the presidential and National Assembly election in the state.

A statement from the Borno state police command issued by the commissioner of police , Damian Chukwu said that at about 0520hrs, suspected Boko Haram Terrorists operating from the outskirts of Maiduguri town, fired sporadic artillery shots into Maiduguri, ostensibly targeted at strategic locations, especially security facilities, to disrupt ongoing electioneering activities in Borno state.

“Some of the missiles were said to have strayed into vulnerable locations like Teacher’s Village IDP Camp. However, no casualties so far, but 2 expended shells of mortar bombs were recovered at Teacher’s village IDP Camp, near the HQ of 7Div Garrison.

“More details are yet to be accessed, but the election processes are not being hindered. We hear that the Military and police teams are on top of the situation.
