Abuja Mothers Protest Against Child Molestation

Published

on

The Abuja mothers, in commemoration of this year’s International women’s Day, embarked on protest against child molestation. The mothers decried rising incidents of child molestation all over the country.

Speaking with journalists during the protest, founder of the Abuja Mom group, Happiness Ani, explained that the protest is taking place for the first time in Abuja.

Ani said child molestation is one of the silent crimes due to the misplaced fear of stigmatisation, but yet there still exists evidence of alarming statistics suggesting that  cases of sexual abuse are on the increase.

She said child molestation is a crime that involves a range of incident or sexual activities between an adult and a child under age of 18 years old, adding that child molestation can come in form of sexual assault, sexual exploitation, pornography or masturbation.
