Senate Presidency: Ndume Unveils 9-Point Agenda

The Senator representing Southern Borno and a top contender for the senate presidency,  Ali Ndume has unveiled a 9-point agenda to serve as his leadership  guide if elected senate president come June this year.

In the agenda, Ndume promised to improve upon the performance of the 8th Senate by making the office of the Senate President less attractive through reduction of unnecessary privileges attached to the office.

In the pamphlets shared to journalists yesterday, Ndume also promised to uphold the Independence of the Legislative arm of government.

The lawmaker promised to work harmoniously with the executive arm of government without undermining the principle of separation of power.

The ranking Senator who said he will prioritise and ensure the passage of the Constituency Development Bill, added that he will make Constituency projects more transparent, accountable, efficient and effective.

Ndume said if he emerges as senate president and the chairman of the national assembly, he will form synergy and cooperate with other senators on a timeline for confirmation and passage of bills, especially the annual budgets.

Ndume, also said the 9th senate under him if elected will make laws that will block leakages, devise means of improving revenue generation, amend the laws and review tax laws which he said will help to reduce reliance on local and foreign loans to finance budget.

“To run the 9th Senate transparently, through open accountability with full participation of all Senators for example, we will transfer the approving powers of the privileges of the senators like foreign travels, allowances to Senate services committee or a new committee to be known as “ways and means committee”.
