ICPC Academy Moves To Tackle Votes Buying



The Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), a training arm of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC),  has perfected plans to tackle vote buying in electoral process across the country to ensure credible election in forthcoming years.
The Provost of ACAN, Professor Sola Akinrinade  disclosed this yesterday in Abuja while briefing journalists in respect of the ACAN/ICPC national dailogue on Eradicating Electoral Corruption, scheduled to take place on 16 April, 2009.
He said the dialogue which will focused on vote buying is very apt at this critical point going by the fact that the electoral process is an important pillar of democracy.
According to him, “While the 2019 elections have been conducted, the matters associated with them will continue to reverberate untill the next elections in 2023. The regular contestation of the outcome of elections is a pointer to the need to address foundational issues relating to them.
“The National Ant-Corruption Strategy specifically requires stakeholders to carry out activities which aim to strengthen the electoral process across the Federal, State and Local Government Levels yo engender public confidence. The ultimate goal is to engender a more credible electoral culture in the country,” he said.
He noted that the dialogue is intended to precipitate a policy framework that will guide the electorate, the election management body, political parties and Anti-Corruption agencies on reporting and dealing with vote buying in the event process.
Akinrinade added that the National dialogue which is to be chaired by the Chairman, Independent National Election Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu will also include key officials from the executive and legislative branches of government among others.
He concluded that the Academy is set to commence Course Two of the Ant-Corruption Academy’s Certificate Course in Corruption Prevention on May 6, 2019, to equip participants with critical tools including knowledge and skills to enble them Institute key measures to prevent corruption in their respective organizations..
