Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has debunked the rumour making rounds that he is planning to dumped the Peoples Democratic (PDP), for the All Progressives Congress ( APC) describing the it as the handwork of mischief makers.
Governor Ortom who made this known during in an interview with newsmen in Makurdi, emphasized that there was no basis for leaving the party, adding that he build PDP and as a card carrying member of the party he has been accommodated and comfortable.
“I have no reason whatsoever to leave PDP, the Party that re-elect me, I am a card carrying member of this party, I also build the party, I can’t go back to APC, there is no basis for that, there is nothing wrong with me in the Party”
The governor also warned those peddling rumour on the social Media that he has advised Kogi State governor to leave APC for Accord Party to desist from such rumour saying he is not in any way in the mood to joinissues with Kogi politics.
“I don’t know anything about Kogi Politics and i have never advised governor Bello on anything, I am trying to tackle my issues here in Benue and I am yet to even achieve the desired result, how can I jump from here to another state, this is really mischief and I have distance myself with such reports”
On the issue of security challenges that has engulfed the state the government said he has liaised with security agencies to cramped down on anyone found perpetrating criminal act in the state by ensuring the full enforcement of Anti Cultism, Robbery Kidnapping and the Law Prohibiting Open grazing.
According to him, in the course of investigation, it was found that the killings around the state has a lot of criminal activities associated with it, adding that him and his Taraba state counterpart have come to an agreement that any citizen of the two states found perpetrating criminal act should be dealt with according to the law.
The governor disclosed that after five hours of meeting with stakeholders in the affected communities especially those in the Sankera axis, the kinsmen of Terwase Akwaza, also known as Ghana denounced him and have asked him to go after him.
He lamented a situation where education, farming and commercial activities at Katsina Ala, has been crippled following the series of attacks and killings in the local government which was a hub of farming Education and commercial activities.
How can we progress? “There is no development in the atmosphere of chaos, what has taken place in Katsina Ala between the people of Ikyurav and Shitile is purely a criminal act and I am going to liaise with the security agencies to ensure that all those involved in the criminal act are eliminated, that was why I aborted my vacation to come back because there was no rest, I was receiving calls everyday on the killings”
The governor who urged the people of the state to remain calm, saying, his administration will not give room for any criminal element run over the state in any way, appealed for useful information to guide the security agencies.
Our correspondent observed that Katsina Ala, which use to be the hub of farming and commercial activities is now the den of criminal activities killing among others, which have made everyone to desert the area.
It would be recalled that the governor few days back aborted his leave to come back to join hands with relevant stakeholders to tackle security challenges that has engulfed the state.
