CSO Lauds NSCDC Proactive Efforts To Restore Peace In Gombe

A civil society organisation, Citizens Watch Advocacy Initiative (CWAI) has applauded the recent actions of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, towards restorating peace in Gombe state.

This is even as the CSO also commiserate with the families of the nine bereaved persons who lost their lives during the tragic car accident that occurred at the procession of the Boys Brigade in Gombe State recently.

It would be recalled that in his condolence message to the families of the bereaved, the CG regrets the unfortunate incident that took place and commiserated with the bereaved families, the Church members, the government and the people of Gombe State.

He lamented that the incident has no religious correlation and that the officer in question was not on official assignment and the vehicle was his private car and cannot be misconstrued to be a planned action.

He cautioned against the misinterpretation of this incidence so as to avoid mayhem and reprisal attacks and thanked the people for their patience and understanding.

In a press release jointly issued by the executive secretary of CWAI and director of media,  Omoba Kenneth Aigbegbele and Comrade James Okoronkwo respectively and made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the duo commended the NSCDC leadership for the prompt action taken by the CG and other measures embarked upon in the restoration of peace and the amicable settlement of the issue with the Gombe State government and the people.

The CSO also lauded the immediate action and policy statement initiated that henceforth all personnel of the Civil Defence Corps must undergo psychological profiling and directed the Forensic Psychological Unit of the Corps to work out modalities for the security profiling and psychological test of all personnel of corps against future occurrences.

According to the press release, the CG also emphasized that the corps will embark on massive training and re-training programs for all personnel irrespective of the cadre in line with best global practices.

They commended the bold initiative of the NSCDC leadership by sending a high-powered delegation from the Headquarters headed by Dr. Emmanuel Adeoye, Deputy Commandant-General in charge of crisis management to visit and pay condolences to the government of Gombe State, the Church and the bereaved families and also reiterated on the need for the personnel to be cautious in dealing with the public as anyone found culpable will be liable to punishment as the Corps will not take responsibility for any indecent action.

It also enjoined all Nigerians to support the human face leadership of NSCDC so as to restore peace and the reduction of criminalities and vandalism of critical national assets across the country.
