Gombe state new governor of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alh. Mohammadu Inuwa Yahaya, was on Wednesday officially sworn-in as the 4th executive Governor of the state.
During his inauguration addressed, shortly after he was sworn in by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hakilah Heman, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, sacked all the 11 local government chairmen in the state and also suspended all appointments, contracts and allocation awarded from the 10 of march to date, saying the system is characterised with corruption.
“We are aware of the last minute massive employment into state and local government services, we are equally aware of reckless award of contracts embarked upon recently.
“We have also been alerted of massive illegal disposals of government properties, we know of the irresponsible carving out, allocations and sale of plots of land to cronies.
“We know of atrocities being committed. Be rest assured that we shall take steps to address all illegalities, perpetrators and illegal beneficiaries will be held responsible to account. In the meantime all appointments, contracts and allocations made or entered into by the state government and local government councils from the 10th day of March 2019 to date are hereby suspended.”
The governor directed the Local Government Council Chairmen to hand over the affairs of the councils to their respective Council Secretaries.
Inuwa who delivered his inauguration speech at a well attended ceremony attended by former governor Danjuma Goje and other dignitaries, at the Gombe township stadium, said the years ahead would “demand patriotism and sacrifice” if Gombe was to overcome its present challenges and problems.
“I urged all our people to embrace the spirit of self help, hard work, patriotism and honesty.”
The new governor expressed regrets that, despite the enormous resources that the state is blessed with, Gombe still lacking behind in terms of development due to the mismanagement of the past administration he emphasized that is not going to be business as usual.
“Let me use this opportunity to solicit the cooperation and understanding of our people to appreciate that it would no longer be business as usual.”
He said his administration will carefully formulate policies and programme that can easily dove tail into other interventions aimed at creating jobs for people.
He then assured all investors within and outside the state of government readiness to provide enabling environment that would make business very attractive and profitable in the state
