A nongovernmental organisation (NGO), Search for Common Ground Nigeria, has called for a peaceful coexistence, freedom of religion and religious tolerance in Nigeria.

Senior project coordinator of the organisation, Fatima Madaki, who stated this during a high-level technical meeting in Abuja, explained that the aim of the project was to engage directly with stakeholders at national, regional, and local levels to reduce interfaith conflicts.

Madaki added that the aim of the organization is also to promote collaboration, encourage policymakers to enhance national justice reforms, as well as to support religious pluralism.

She stressed that the project, which has been implemented since 2018, would engage religious and policymakers to jointly counter violent rhetoric through positive public messages of religious pluralism and respect for human rights.

“We seek to increase engagement to communal, state, and national level platforms, as well as media platforms for conversations that would challenge violent narratives and promote tolerance and positive perception of other faiths.”
