The Bauchi State Football Association (BAFA) has commended Governor Bala Mohammed, for the unprecedented feat achieved towards the development of football in the state.
According to the Chairman of Bauchi State FA, Patrick Pascal, MON, who spoke to LEADERSHIP sports, revealed that the governor Bala led administration under a period of one year has brought tremendous change and development in the football sector of the North-Eastern State.
“We at Bauchi FA applaud what the state governor has been doing in regards to football development in all the 20 local government area,” he said.
‘’Just under one year in office, governor Bala put a smile on the faces of the football fan by renovating the abandoned Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium with best medical facilities and ensures that Wikki Tourists return to the traditional home ground in the Nigerian professional football league (NPFL) after so many years of playing away from home’’.
“Not only ensure that the players and official gets their salaries as at when due, just a few weeks ago the governor Bala led administration reaffirmed his commitment to football development in the state by providing new buses to Wikki Tourists to boost their performance in the Nigerian top-flight league ’’.
The Bauchi state FA boss who doubles as the Super Eagles Coordinator further stated the achievement recorded by the state FA in regards to grassroots football development was as a result of the supports from the governor.
“We know that football is one of the things that bring and unite the youth, and take them away from social vices, and so far the governor have been doing his best to make sure the youth are engaged in sports activities’’.
“Also the governor Bala has done well in regards to football grassroots development in the state, we have organized Under-13 and Under-16 tournaments with his massive support for teams, the Under-13 team went for a tournament in Gombe state and ten of our players were picked to compete at the national level, which a good achievement for the Bauchi FA’’.
Pascal, who is the football custodian in the Pearl of Tourism state, revealed that plans are in top gear to organise a Governor Cup in line with international best practices in the state with an approval insight from governor Bala.
“We have concluded all plans to host a successful Governor Cup, this will involve all the 20 local government areas in the state, which will be another avenue to discover hidden talents across the state, we are just waiting for the governer’s kind approval’’.
“There are plans to nurture the discovered talents to stardom if we get the necessary support from the state government because we know what it means to have our youth playing for the national team and Europe, this will further place the state in the world map”.
The former Super Eagles star, however, used the opportunity to call on corporate organisations and individuals to partner with the Bauchi FA in contributing their own quota to the development of grassroots.
“Bauchi FA is in collaboration with some well-meaning individuals in the state, they have already donated footballs and training kits in some areas, in other to bring the children together, at this point we require more support from the Bauchi state government in other to carry out all programs which are aimed at developing football and empowering the youth in the state”.
