Insurgency: Church Urges More Security In Gwoza Hills To Restore Peace



The Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy more security personnel around Gwoza Hills, Adamawa state to guarantee safety return of the IDPs home.

Rev. Jeol Billi President of the church, made the urge in Yola Thursday at world press conference in memory of members killed by insurgency.

Billi emphasized that, deploy a battalion to the volatile areas would help in mitigating further attacks and allow people to go their farms for means of livelihood.

The cleric also stated government should as matter of urgency, marshal out plans to evacuate the over 47,000 stranded IDPs in Cameroon Camps back to Nigeria by the end of this year.

The North East Development Commission (NEDC), the clergy pleaded, should come to aid of the church to reconstruct houses, schools and worship places destroyed.

The Commission’s impact is yet to be visible in the church, government ensure putting a stop to the continuous killings, abductions, rape and all forms of criminality across the country.

“Appointments should reflect Federal Character and any breach of that is unacceptable to the Church.

“While we as a Church support the Federal Government fight against corruption, we frown at the selective nature of the fight and demand that rule of law must be respected.

Rev Dr Daniel Mbaya, General Secretary of the church lauded government’s efforts towards diversifying the economy in the midst of Covid-19 challenge.

Mbaya observed that, creating more job opportunities to accommodate teaming unemployed youths, to reduce youths restiveness.
