Northern publisher of the online Politics Today newspaper, Nasir Dambatta has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s latest move to overhaul Nigeria’s security apparatus.
In a statement he issued to journalists in Kaduna on Wednesday, Dambatta disagreed with an earlier stance of Arewa Online Publishers that lambasted the President over the nation’s security challenges, saying: “those of us outside the corridors of power may not really know how much the President and the cabinet have been doing to bring an end to the protracted problems of insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and related crimes”.
He explained that “the presidential directive given to the nation’s top security apparatchiks, including the service chiefs, was a demonstration of his commitment to the re-engineering of the nation’s security architecture for the better. We should also not forget Buhari’s consistent admonition on security agents to evolve new, more viable strategies for the enhancement of their operations and the safety of the citizenry”.
Dambatta further stated that the timing of the Presidential directive was an indication that Buhari gave the nation’s security agents the opportunity to apply all legitimate strategies without undue interference.
The online publisher expressed surprise at:”the growing number of emergency critics of the administration’s security policies, though many of them know very little about how the nation’s security is managed.”
He called on people who were not privy to what efforts the Federal Government was quietly making on the nation’s security challenge to stop turning the matter into a political one, in the media.
Dambatta, however, urged Nigerians not to relent in praying for the nation, “as our fatherland struggles to overcome its deluge of development challenges with zeal and determination”
