The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it deployed 491 personnel for the Nasarawa Central Constituency House of Assembly by-election scheduled for today, Saturday, Aug. 8, 2020.
This was contained in a statement by the police public relations officer (PPRO), ASP Ramhan Nansel, and made available to journalists yesterday in Lafia, stressing the command would ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols during the election.
The statement said the personnel had been thoroughly lectured to be civil in the discharge of their duties and respect the fundamental human rights of the electorate.
“In view of the above, we want to assure the electorates that the police is ever ready to provide the much needed security for the conduct of the by- election.
“Consequently, we want to warn all those who may want to cause problems during this election to steer clear or risk being arrested and decisively dealt in accordance with the provisions of the law.
“We will be supported by personnel from the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Service (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure free, fair and credible elections,” it said.
The statement further said that the police in conjunction with other security agencies had put in place a comprehensive and a solid security arrangement aimed at frustrating any criminal agenda.
