2027: Kebbi Central APC Youths Beg Bagudu, Aliero To Back New Candidate

A group, the Concerned Youths of Kebbi Central Senatorial District in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu and Senator Adamu Aliero to support a younger candidate to represent the district in the 2027 election.

In an open letter addressed to both leaders who were former governors of the state, the youths said the appeal was made as their children, loyal supporters and members of the APC.

Leader of the APC youth group, Mohammed Aliyu Ambursa, said the appeal comes from deep concern for the future of the party, the senatorial zone and Kebbi State.

“We respectfully urge you both not to contest the Kebbi Central Senatorial seat in the upcoming 2027 general elections,” he said.

Ambursa acknowledged the legacies of both leaders in Kebbi State as unparalleled. “You have served this state and nation with great honour, dedication, and impact across various capacities.

“You have built structures, provided jobs, executed life changing projects, and laid foundations that many generations will forever benefit from. For all this and more, we remain eternally grateful.

“However, we must be honest: The internal political tension and rivalry between your esteemed camps have had serious consequences for party unity in Kebbi State,” he said.

The youths argued that if the trend continues into 2027, it could dangerously divide the APC’s base in Kebbi Central, “weaken our chances at the polls, and possibly result in the opposition winning the seat, a loss that could have far-reaching effects on the strength and stability of the party in the entire state.”

The noted that Kebbi Central is more than just a senatorial district but a political heartbeat of the state, stressing that it delivers the highest number of votes and serves as a barometer for the general mood of the electorate in other zones.

Ambursa added that losing the district would not only be a strategic loss but will also increase pressure on Governor Nasir Idris’ re-election efforts and risk reversing the gains of the current administration.

“Baba Aliero, you have been a political icon since 1998. The current House of Representatives member for Birnin Kebbi/Kalgo/Bunza was not even born when you were elected Senator in 1998. Many of your peers have stepped aside to take on elder statesman roles.

“We plead with you to emulate leaders like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Yariman Bakura, Mamuda Shinkafi, Ali Modu Sherif, Sule Lamido, Attahiru Bafarawa and host of others, whose legacies endure beyond elective office.

“Your Excellency Atiku Bagudu, your achievements as Governor and Minister are deeply appreciated. From infrastructure to youth empowerment, your work speaks volumes.

“But now, just as you brought in Comrade Nasir Idris as a fresh face for governorship, we ask you to do the same for Kebbi Central in the Senate. Support a younger, united candidate who will carry forward your legacy,” the letter read.

He added that the message was not out of disrespect or opposition, but an appeal borne out of love, loyalty, and concern while acknowledging their great contributions to the lives of the people and development of the state.

“We ask that you consider stepping aside from this race for the sake of unity, peace, and progress in 2027. Let a new candidate emerge with your full blessings and support so that we can move forward together and give our Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, the stable political support he needs to succeed,” Ambursa said.
