Nollywood actors from Abia State have accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of planning to upturn the result of the 2023 governorship election which it lost to the Labour Party in the state.

The actors stated this in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday in Umuahia, the state capital yesterday, saying the PDP was trying to mortgage the state after losing woefully.

The statement was signed by Ejike Asiegbu, Osita Offor, Emma Ehumadu, Chinedu Ikedieze, Emeka Enyiocha, Michael Ugochukwu and UK-based Favour Nzeanochie.

The March 18 governorship election was won by Alex Otti after two previous attempts in 2015 and 2019 beating the PDP candidate, Okey Ahiwe.

“They are trying to apply the same method applied by a current governor in a neighboring state, thereby denying Ndi-Abia the rightful government they voted for,” they noted.

They said their investigations revealed that some members of the PDP were fighting through legal means to upturn the result which had given Abians hope that their long-awaited dream of freedom was realisable.

According to them, Abians displayed uncommon courage during the election, despite all the intimidation, suppression, and harassment by the PDP prior and during the election.

“Based on the above, it is very important that this mandate that was freely given to Otti, be protected and secured, so that Abians can enjoy the democratic dividend Otti promised them,” they said.

The actors added that they were fully aware of all the nocturnal meetings by the PDP to buy the judgement and its desperation to keep holding the state in bondage.

“We have learnt that the desperation is heighten due to the rot in the accounts of the government and the fear that Otti will open the books when he assume office.

“At this point, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari and other well-meaning Nigerians to advise Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the PDP to allow the mandate of the people to stand,” they said.
