He stated this while commending the Air line for volunteering to evacuate over 5,500 Nigerians stranded in the country.

In a tweet, Atiku described the gesture as commendable, adding that the Federal Government should provide the necessary assistance for the airline to carry out the task.

“It is heartwarming to hear the news of @flyairpeace volunteering to evacuate the over 5,500 Nigerian citizens stranded in Sudan. This gesture is commendable, and I will ask the Federal Government to give the company every assistance necessary to carry out this arduous task,” Atiku said.

He also commended the chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyeama, for his act of patriotism and selfless service to the country. Atiku, however, called on the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the National Emergency Management Agency, and Nigerians in Diaspora Commission to be more proactive in handling the affairs and security of Nigerians in Diaspora.

In 2019, Air Peace also came to the rescue of Nigerians during the xenophobic attacks in South Africa. The airline evacuated hundreds of Nigerians free of charge. The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyeama, had said at the time that he was fulfilling his patriotic duty to the country.

“I didn’t do it for any personal gain. I did it because I am a Nigerian and I have to do what I can to help my country,” Onyeama said.
