Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has recalled how a former governor, who had invited his vice president and another senior official of government, also invited him as the third dignitary to commission the same project at different times.

He said such deceitful attitude had never been in the character of his host, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State.

He, therefore, applauded him for his administration’s commitment to investing in key infrastructure in the last eight years, maintaining that the outgoing governor does not play politics with projects.

He said, “One governor had invited me to commission a project in his state, and I didn’t know he had already invited the vice president and another to commission the same project in the past, until someone confided in me that this is the third time this same project would be commissioned.”

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the 23.4 kilometres Etinan-Eket dual carriageway at Atabong head bridge in Eket local government area, the former president, noted that “I have visited this state to commission projects more than any other state in Nigeria, and each time it’s a new project.”

Obasanjo, who described Emmanuel’s administration as a success story for the numerous achievements in virtually all sectors, except agriculture, which he scored the administration low, was full of thanks to God as Emmanuel, has finally allayed his fears concerning the right successor to sustain the legacies of peace, security and development in the state.

“You have achieved success, and success is leaving a place better than you met it,” he stressed, and described the choice of Pastor Umo Eno, who promised to sustain the development strides, as the best choice.

However, an elated Governor Emmanuel, said he would not dwell in too much talk, but would rather allow the numerous projects in health, education, power facilities, roads and rural developments across the 31 LGAs, to speak on his behalf, even as he promised to continue to commission projects till his May 29 hand over date.
