The Supreme Court has fixed Tuesday, May 9, 2023 to deliver its judgment on the disputed July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun State.

The apex court fixed the day for the judgment after taking arguments from parties involved in the matter.

The incumbent Governor Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have been in a fierce legal battle over who actually won the election.

After Governor Adeleke was declared winner of the election, Oyetola dragged him to the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the result.

Tribunal upturned Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the winner of the election.

Subsequently, Adeleke approached the Appeal Court, which also affirmed his victory and set aside the judgement of the Tribunal on March 24.

Dissatisfied, Oyetola approached the Supreme Court for final adjudication on the matter.

However, while Oyetola is the appellant in the instant matter in the Supreme Court having lost at the Court of Appeal, Adeleke is the major respondent being the beneficiary of the Court of Appeal decision.

Consequently, the Supreme Court will deliver the final verdict by 2pm on May 9.
