Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr Oliver Ali Aba has charged newly installed Bishop of the Diocese of Atamunu, Calabar, Bishop Barr. Otuekong Ukut to fight all acts immorality, corruption and evil acts.
The prelate gave the charge during the enthronement of Otuekong and pioneer bishop of the Diocese of Atamunu (Methodist Cathedral of Favour) Sunday in Calabar.
Aba, who spoke at the inauguration of the Diocese of Atamunu, enthronement of pioneer Bishop Otuekong and presentation of Lay president, Elder Dr. Gabriel Etim Inyang, said, “Fight immorality, corruption and all acts of evil which are bane to societal development. Oppose all acts that work against humanity.
“You must be aggressively involved in evangelism. Be a pastor and not an administrator. Be patient, have care for your followers.”
In his remark shortly after taking the oath of office, Otuekong who spoke drawing a biblical inference from the holy Bible in the book of Jude 1:3, assured the church of living up to expectation, promising not to betray the confidence reposed in him.
Speaking on the theme: “Contending With the Faith”, Otuekong said,”I would do everything within my reach to take the church and it members to higher pedestal.
“I would not deviate from the Christian tenets but promised to work towards the upliftment of the church and members.
“I would do all that I can to turnaround the church fortunes and make it a place where those with lost hop cam find solace.
“Like Jude, who fought immorality, opposed all deities in the days of old. I would do same.
“I charged you Christians to do same, so that our nation can become a better place for us to co-exist with peace.
“I promise to stand for the truth, just like John Wesley one of the fathers of faith who handed over Methodist to the people on the foundation of truth in 1842.”
The cleric urged men and women of faith to stand up against all odd that undermine the the Christian faith.
“Oppose gay marriage which if not check could end up destroy the society. We oppose gay marriage in totality,” he maintained.
