The event was held in remembrance of the late first Sarkin Yakin Bauchi, Mallam Muhammadu Mamman Kusu.

The ceremony was also to remember the legacies left by the late Sarkin Kusu who fought the war during the reign of Shehu Usman Danfodio.

LEADERSHIP reports that the spectators were enthralled by the dances and other displays by various cultural troupes, while hunters salute the occasion with several gunshots in the air, decked in their different costumes, the troupes matched in a procession to the stage to display at Lame Central Primary School.

Also, entertaining spectators were Fulani, Jarawa dancers, dancers from Dass, other neighbouring districts, villages and hunters who displayed their prowess with bows and arrows and guns.

The convener of the durbar, Sarkin Yakin Bauchi, Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame, said the event served as a symbol of strengthening the bond of unity and togetherness of the people of Lame districts and some parts of the North East states.

Aliyu said that the event was organised in line with the government’s policy and programme of promoting culture and tourism for development.

He said, “Our forefathers like late Mamman Kusu who fought Jihad with Yakubun Bauchi first Emir of Bauchi during the reign of Sheikh Usman Danfodiyo left a legacy whom his descendants and the society have to remember and emulate because they lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.”

The Sarkin Yaki said Late Mamman Kusu even though he was a strong warrior, was also an Islamic scholar who left a lot of legacies which his descendants and other people will know during such an event.
