All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State says it would set up a reconciliation committee to settle discontents thrown up by the outcome of the general elections in the state.

Its chairman, Dr John Mamman, stated this when member-elect for Akwanga-North state constituency, Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa presented his Certificate of Return to the party’s leadership on Wednesday in Lafia.

He, however, asked party members who would not embrace the reconciliation effort, and want to remain to undermine the party from within to take the exit option.

According to him, the leadership is not aware of the roles certain elements within played by sabotaging its fortune during the general elections.

He said the reconciliation effort would provide the window of opportunity for those with genuine grievances and willing to give the party the chances to address the same in the interest of peace and unity.

“The party will continue to promote justice, equity and obey the rule of law in accordance with the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Our stand as a party in Nasarawa is not to interfere with the choice of the people. Therefore during the primaries, allowed the people’s decision to prevail.

“During litigations, we obeyed the court rulings and presented flags to authentic candidates of the party. In the case of Akwanga North too, we have followed the rulings of the various courts of law.

“Now, the Supreme Court has finally decided and declared Larry Ven-Bawa as the authentic member-elect for the Constituency,” he noted.

Recall that controversy had trailed the outcome of the party’s primary between the member elect and the deputy speaker of the House of Assembly, Nehemiah Dandaura, which culminated in legal tussles   from Appeal to the Supreme Court,” he said.

The Appeal Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, had declared Hon. Dandaura as the authentic member elect for the constituency, but ruling was upturned by the Supreme Court in its judgement, rendering the certificate of return issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Dandaura invalid.

INEC issued another certificate of return to Ven-Bawa, following the Supreme Court verdict which declared him as the authentic candidate of the party.

The member-elect, Ven-Bawa appreciated the party as well as his supporters for standing by him during the period of litigation.

He promised to work together with the party and the state government to ensure development in the state.
