The Lions Clubs International plans to establish a new eye care hospital valued at over N1 billion in Piwoyi community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The club urged the government and citizens to support the establishment of the hospital for quality eye care services in the country.
At a press briefing ahead of the club’s 16th Multiple District 404 National Convention in Abuja, its chairperson, Obo Edet, emphasised the importance of the hospital and called on the government and all well-meaning Nigerians to support the project.
The convention, according to the Multiple District Convention chairperson, Lion Lami Ahmed, is an annual gathering of Lions Club members to share best practices, review activities over the year, and set new strategies and action plans for the upcoming year. Additionally, new members are welcomed into the club.
The Lions Clubs International, a humanitarian organisation with a presence in over 200 countries and regions, focuses on serving the community by addressing issues related to health, hunger, the environment, and education.
The establishment of the eye hospital in Abuja is in line with the organisation’s mission to provide quality health care services to people in need.
The hospital is expected to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of various eye conditions. It will also serve as a training centre for medical personnel, especially those involved in ophthalmology.
With Nigeria’s population estimated to be over 200 million, access to quality health care remains a significant challenge. The Lions Club’s initiative to establish an eye hospital in Abuja is a commendable effort towards addressing this issue and providing much-needed medical services to the population.
