South West youth under the aegis of Yoruba Afenifere Youth Organisation of Nigeria (YAYON) has advised the incoming administration of President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to accord position of authority to traditional rulers so that they can contribute their quota to the development of the country.
Addressing the press on Wednesday in Lagos, the National President of the organisation, Comrade Eric Oluwole who briefed the press in company of the organisation executives said the organisation is working in conjunction with other organisations across the six geo political zones, saying there is the need to set agenda for the incoming government particularly on the need to give traditional rulers responsibility.
Comrade Oluwole noted that, there is not much development at the grassroot because the traditional rulers who would play a significant role in the development of the grassroot have been relegated in the scheme of governance and not given any role to play in government.
According to the organisation, “We demand that the royal father’s should as a matter of urgency towards genuine, meaningful and homogenous development of communities, be granted statutory roles in the constitution of the nation.”
The organisation demanded that traditional rulers should be provided with monthly security votes which should be 50 percent of funds allocated to each state of the federation, adding that, that would help them to manage affairs of the community and checkmate the level of crime in their domain.

YAYON also demanded the re- introduction of History as a subject to be taught in all schools, just as they called for the establishment of a standard health care system in all communities, which should be under the control of the traditional rulers.

The organisation emphasised that a crucial role should be given to the traditional because they live within the communities and their position is permanent unlike the elected representative who stayed in office for a specified period in line with the provision of the constitution.
