The chairman of Ivo local government area of Ebonyi State, Hon Emmanuel Ajah, has inaugurated a nine-man committee to investigate and unravel the remote and immediate cause of the 5-day riot by the women of Ishiagu autonomous community which was hijacked by suspected thugs in the area.
The LG Boss who condemned in strong terms the wanton destruction of valuable properties belonging to some major political stakeholders of the area especially members of the All Progressives Congress APC by the suspected thugs described the protests as uncalled for.
LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that the riot which threw the community into panic and apprehension was staged by over 100 women and girls over alleged incessant kidnapping, rape attacks and other criminal activities by suspected herdsmen in the area.
Ajah who inaugurated the 9-man committee, at the council headquarters, charged them to unravel the causes of the riot and the attendant destruction of valuable properties belonging to prominent people in the community.
He also tasked the committee to look into the power tussle that has rocked the Ishiagu community development union, ICDU, which according to him, has affected the political and economic existence of the community.
Ajah also charged the committee to exert every possible strategy tenable in combating the security challenges confronting Ishiagu community ranging from kidnapping, stealing, instability, rioting, consumption of hard drugs and restiveness.
The committee is headed by Mazi Iwuchukwu Onu while Mazi Okochi Louis is to serve as the secretary.
