AMVCA Holds Cultural Night Ahead of May 20 Awards Ceremony

Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) kicked off its ninth edition with a cultural night, a part of the three-day event leading up to the awards night today.

Hosted by Daniel Effiong-Etim and Nancy Isime, the event convened thespians and movie professionals, as Mercy Aigbe, Ramsey Noah, Uti Nwachukwu, Venita Akpofure, and several BBTitans contestants like Elozonam, Yemi Cregz, Juicy Jay among others.

The cultural night saw some of these celebrities nominated for the Best Dressed Male and Female, brought onstage for the elimination process by the audience which saw Venita Akpofure and Yemi Cregz clinch the Best Dressed Female and Male awards.

Speaking at the event, Head of Content, West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, Busola Tejumola, AMVCA 2023 is focused on raising the bar in its recognition and rewarding of talents in the various aspects of the African television and film and industry. Hence, the introduction of two new award categories: Best Original Series and Best Unscripted Original, and the return of the Best Social Content Creator award category.

Major nominees at the AMVCA 2023 are Kunle Afolayan’s sixteen times nominated Netflix Original Movie Anikulapo; Dimeji Ajibola’s Shanty Town and Loukman Ali’s Brotherhood both movies had eleven nominations each, and Funke Akindele’s Battle on Buka Street.

Nigerian serie show host and on-air-personality IK Osakioduwa and South African model, Zozibini Tunzi will co-host the awards night; whilst media personalities Toke Makinwa, Uti Nwachukwu, Sika Osei and VJ Adama will host the red carpet, presenting views close-up look at all the glitz and glamour of the night.

 

Whichever of the nominated films awarded this night, their creators and performers will witness a new trajectory in their lives and careers.
