Dr. Josef Onoh, the spokesman for the President-elect in the South East, has reassured Ohanaeze Ndigbo that Bola Tinubu’s inauguration will take place within the next 144 hours, despite the internal disagreement within the Igbo socio-cultural group’s leadership. Onoh emphasized that Tinubu does not require the group’s black market recognition and that their position on supporting him is inconsequential. This article delves into the conflicting views within Ohanaeze Ndigbo and highlights Onoh’s response to the divided group.

The factional divide within Ohanaeze Ndigbo has caused uncertainty regarding their support for Bola Tinubu’s inauguration. While one faction led by Okechukwu Isiguzoro has voiced its support, another faction headed by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has declared its backing for Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party. The disagreement within the Igbo group prompted Dr. Josef Onoh to address the situation and assert the inevitability of Tinubu’s May 29th inauguration.

Dr. Onoh emphasized that the upcoming inauguration of Bola Tinubu as President-elect is an unstoppable reality that holds immense significance for the country. He dismissed Ohanaeze’s dissenting views as a “delusion” and stated that the president-elect’s focus will be on fulfilling his mandate to the Nigerian people. Onoh further indicated that the administration will not interfere in regional politics or the leadership structure of socio-cultural groups.

In response to Ohanaeze’s internal disputes, Onoh stated that the government will await the outcomes of the pending lawsuits filed by the Igbo group in various Enugu courts. He expressed the need to determine the authentic Ohanaeze Ndigbo through legal judgments. Only then, if desired, can they integrate the recognized faction into the development plans for the South East and other regions of Nigeria.

Onoh underscored the non-negotiable nature of Nigeria’s unity and progress, emphasizing that no organization or entity surpasses the country’s interests. He reiterated the commitment of the incoming President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to lead the nation forward. Onoh urged the litigants within Ohanaeze Ndigbo to remain focused on their court cases while the government concentrates on governing Nigeria. He reiterated that the black market recognition and acceptance of the incoming president are unnecessary if the court invalidates the opposition’s claims.
