President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), Alhaji Abdullahi Saidu-Baba, has expressed satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the 2023 National President’s Cup Open Championship held in Abuja.
He applauded the NTF board for ensuring that the tournament, which also served as an Olympic weight classification, eventually saw the light of the day as the federation was driving towards achieving its set target. .
The NTF boss said the Federation purposefully organised the championship as a way of giving her athletes the opportunity to showcase their skills and prepare them for bigger and better future championships.
According to him, the present NTF board under his leadership since came on board has initiated several programmes including capacity building for officiating officials, coaches and enlightenment of athletes on the current rules and regulations guiding the game.
“This is great, this is what the current administration of the NTF has been trying to do. When we came here we started with capacity building and educating the athletes on the current rules and regulations.
“We are also trying to empower our athletes on the skills required to become champions, empowering our officials on other techniques of officiating and coaching and what you are seeing now is giving them the opportunity to test their skills and to also prepare them for future championships”
“Don’t forget we have the All African Games coming and the Olympic qualification. This event is for Olympic weight classification and we’re trying to look at our athletes and their prospects,’’ said Saidu-Baba.
He further stressed that the Federation set objectives is to perform well in their lineup of events which includes Kebbi Open, Korean Ambassador’s cup, All African Games and the World Championship which will be taking place this year in Bacu, Azerbaijan.
