Followers Protest Derogatory Comments On Abdul Jabbar

Followers of the convicted Kano Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abduljabar Nasir Kabara, have called on security agencies to take punitive action on those making derogatory comments on their leader and the court verdict.

Kabara was recently convicted for blasphemous statement against the Prophet of Islam Muhammad (SAW).

He was accused of blasphemous utterances against the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and later an Upper Sharia Court headed by Ibrahim Sarki Yola sentenced him to death by hanging on December 15, 2022.

According to them, since the verdict was delivered, ” we (his followers) have filed an appeal before a Kano State High Court because of our dissatisfaction with the judgement in line with the right of appeal as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

At a press conference held at the Kano NUJ Secretariat, the spokesperson of the group, Engr Abdullahi Warure, stressed the need for security agencies to take appropriate actions on those trying to cause disharmony among them through verbal attack on their leader as their action was tantamount to contempt of court.

Warure said, “We have resolved to take legal steps against any person or group that uses the name of our leader with the intention of insulting or denting his image.”

He said it is an indictment to their faith and infringement on their fundamental right to freedom of religion and thought.

“We believe that all right-thinking people in the state and country in general understood the hypocrisy of those clerics who deliberately ganged up to eliminate Sheikh Abduljabar, ” Warure said.

He said in recent times a Salafi Scholar in Bauchi State Sheikh Idris Abdul Azeez Dutse Tanshi was also accused of blasphemy but they have seen his sect members who fought Sheikh Abduljabar tooth and nail giving him cover and are now defending him for being one of their own.
