With few days to the presidential inauguration to usher in the Tinubu/Shettima administration on May 29, 2023, a coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups in Akwa State has urged the president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to consider equity and fair play in the distribution of political portfolios.

At a press conference in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, yesterday Abak Five-In-One Consolidated Movement (AFCM), noted that “Akwa Ibom, based on its strategic position as one of the most economic life wires of the country, couple with its contribution towards the victory of the ruling APC at the centre, deserves better deal from the federal government.”

Its national coordinator, Adede Mfoniso Inyang, on behalf of other leaders and elders of the coalition, stressed the contribution of the former deputy inspector-general (DIG), Udom Ekpoudom to stabilise the party ahead of the just-concluded polls, which ensured the state secured more votes for the victory of the Tinubu/Shettima ticket.

Besides, the group noted that Ekpoudom, had against all odds compromised for peace by abiding by the court decision to ensure the bottlenecks were cleared for the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Chief Godswill Akpabio, to get the Senatorial District ticket for Akwa Ibom North-West, and his subsequent victory in the interest of peace and unity in the party.

He said, “The former DIG is a chieftain of the APC and a loyal party man, who believes in the development and progress of the party, that it is only under the atmosphere of peace that the party can contest and win the elections, so he agreed and accepted the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) that Akpabio was the choice of the party.

“He accepted the decision, and remain resolute to work in the interest of the party, which ensured the State contributed more votes for the party to win the Presidential election and victories for Senator Akpabio, and two other National Assembly members from the state.”
