The longest-serving minister of education since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, Adamu Adamu has bid farewell to the ministry in Abuja on Thursday.

Adamu who was appointed by the outgoing president, Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) in 2015 and served as minister of Education for over 91 months.

LEADERSHIP reports that during Adamu’s tenure, the education sector witnessed the implementation of some policies but failed to address some issues including the industrial strike actions from tertiary institutions-based unions and out of school children’s syndrome.

However, it was able to implement a new retirement age for teachers while the highest number of public and private universities were established under his tenure.

Adamu who was celebrated on Thursday in Abuja during a valedictory service held in his honour received accolades from members of staff of the ministry.
