Kano State governor Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged to take serious steps to ameliorate the sufferings of the people caused by the lingering water scarcity in various parts of the state.

He matched his words with action by giving a one-week ultimatum to the management of the Kano State Water Board to submit its demands to end the perennial water shortage in the state.

Yusuf spoke yesterday during an inspection of the Challawa Water Treatment Plant, Kano. The governor said his administration had declared a state of emergency, to solve the problem of water scarcity across the state.

The governor however, expressed dissatisfaction with the dilapidated condition of the facilities at the water treatment plant, saying that the issue of water shortage would soon become history.

He said the state government would fulfill its campaign promises, and urged Kano residents to give him the maximum cooperation.

While briefing the governor, the director of production of the treatment plant, Sakabu Lawal, said only two water pumping machines out of six were functional.

The governor had earlier visited the School of Health Technology, Madobi, Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano State Drugs and Consumables Supply Agency, the abandoned Wuju-wuju Road, Dandolo Cemetery among others.
