The Yobe State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed concern over the unpatriotic attitude of some filling station owners and operators in Damaturu, Yobe State and other local government areas of the state by creating artificial scarcity of the petrol and increasing its price.
In a press statement signed by Comrade Rajab Mohammed, the chairman and Alhassan Sule Mamudo, secretary of the council, the union said it was greatly concerned about the plight of people of the state.
It called on security agencies, government, regulatory agencies and all relevant stakeholders to promptly take necessary measures to reverse this ugly situation.
“We want to use this opportunity to inform you that we may describe it as sabotage of Nigeria’s democratic process, and this is unacceptable by all Nigerians. We will continue to monitor the situation and update the citizens on any positive development while urging all to remain calm as the situation will be managed amicably,” the union said.
