Gov Bello Proclaims 8th Kogi Assembly, Yusuf Emerges Speaker

Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello has proclaimed the commencement of the state’s 8th House of Assembly.

Bello in a letter addressed to the clerk of the house congratulated elected members of the assembly and proclaimed the first session of the Assembly in line with the constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria.

After reading the letter, the lawmaker representing Lokoja I Constituency, Hon. Bin-Ebiya Shehu Tijani, nominated Hon. Aliu Umar Yusuf, who later emerged as the new speaker of the legislature.

The house also elected Hon.Enema Paul, member representing Dekina Okura constituency as the new deputy speaker.

In his inaugural speech, Yusuf thanked God almighty for the privilege to serve Kogi State.

He also thanked his colleagues for finding him worthy to champion the affairs of the legislative house.

According to him, the State Assembly under his leadership will collaborate with other arms of government towards moving Kogi State forward.

The house also announced Hon. Suleiman Abdulrasaq of Okene 1 constituency as the majority leader, Hon Seidu Amodu of  Ofu constituency as the deputy majority leader and Hon. Asema Baba Haruna of Adavi constituency as the chief whip.

 

Other appointed principal officers includes Hon. Bello Oluwaseyi of Kabba/Bunu as deputy chief whip,  Hon. Idowu Ibikunle of Yagba West constituency as minority leader,  Hon Sunday Daku from Bassa as deputy minority leader and Hon Bode Ogunmola from Ogori/Magongo as minority whip

 

The house adjourned its sitting to August 1, 2023.
