Abia Goes Tough On Agents To Boost IGR

Abia State Board of Internal Revenue Service has directed its agents to submit evidence of their payments from May 2022 to May 2023 to the internally generated revenue (IGR) account.

The directive was contained in a statement by the acting chairman of the board, Peace Ukaegbu, made available to newsmen yesterday in Umuahia, the capital.

The statement explained that the directive was sequel to the government’s suspension of all forms enforcement of flying revenue collection in the state about two weeks ago.

Noting that the submission must be on or before Wednesday, June 14, it added that the suspension would continue until the government’s further directive.

In part, the statement also “enjoined the agents to provide a copy of their letter of engagement for proper documentation”.

It warned that failure to comply with the directives would be viewed as an act of sabotage to the state and deliberate withdrawal of service.

In a statement issued yesterday, the permanent secretary of the ministry of works, Sunday Okpara said the directive had commenced.
