A non-governmental organisation, the Rock of Ages Empowerment Foundation, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to introduce a policy that would empower widows in the country and make them self-reliant.
Founder of the organisation, Ignatius Newman Ezeigbo who made the call in Abuja on the occasion of the International Widows Day said the present administration should try to consider vulnerable people first when introducing policies.
“The government should give priority to the welfare of the less privileged in our society first, especially widows because indigent widows are not able to do things to make ends meet.
“Most of them struggle a lot to put food on their tables for their children and you could see that some of them have nothing to rely upon because of the condition of the country and the economy presently,” he said.
He further said the government can empower the widows by giving them the enabling environment to farm and be able to sell their farm products and be given soft loans for farming.
