The 59th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria Dr Innocent Iweka Okwuosa FCA has charged Accountants to uphold the tenets of the profession which include accuracy and integrity.
The President stated this at the investiture ceremony of the newly elected chairman of ICAN Abuja Mr Adeyemi Adesanya FCA in Abuja on Friday.
He said : “ We want to ensure that accuracy and Integrity is promoted amongst our members. This new administration will need services of Accountants to play their roles. So we encourage all members in all sectors of the economy to contribute their quota. “
The newly sworn in 13th Chairman of the ICAN Abuja and District Society Mr Adeyemi Adesanya FCA said he will unite and empower the members of district in his tenure.
He said : “ I have two things I want to do. One is that I want to unite our members and the second is, I want to empower them through capacity building. Through training and conferences we will build the capacity of our members. Soon, we are going to have a retreat with the new executives and the body of past chairman to help us chart the way forward. “
Adesanya promised to provide a purposeful leadership for the ICAN Abuja and District Society which will help bring solutions to challenges facing it’s members and the accounting profession.
The Accountant General of the Federation who was the Special guest of Honour at the occasion, Dr Mrs Oluwatoyin Madein, said the country needs professional accountants across board to help drive the economic agenda of the government.
Madein said her door is opened to receive contributions from the professional body that will help engender transparency and accountability in managing public finance.
The chairman of the Occasion,Engi.Dr Muhammad Yakubu said the accounting profession is a very vital part of any nation hence he urged the newly inaugurated council members to uphold the standard of the profession .
