The Executive Director of Crowns Luxury Homes, Gbadewole Mary, has unveiled a new mon-governmental organizatiom (NGO) in order to empower women and youths in the country.
She explained that the initiative, informed by the passion to give back to the society, was aimed at taking Nigerians, particularly women and youths, out of poverty.
Gbadewole spoke while addressing journalists during the unveiling of the NGO in Abuja to mark her birthday.
She also gave cash and other items at the occasion as part of efforts to empower women and youths.
Mary Gbadewole said: “I am the kind of person that really wants to help humanity and that really wants to give back to the community, that wants to encourage. I think there’s something called teach somebody how to fish rather than just giving them fish all the time and that is what I stand for most times.
“So, I believe that when you impact someone with a knowledge, you support with a substance, and you are not actually helping only one person but you’re also helping a family and you’re helping the nation. So, that brings me to doing this empowerment today and launching the NGO especially on my birthday because I believe that it is not by my power that I have come this far.”
Speaking on why women and youths were chosen as major beneficiaries, Mary said: “I love encouraging other women. I hate it when women are seen depending on men alone as their own source. So, because of that, I believe that if I add value to another woman, she also will not be a burden on the husband. But she will be the support system which we are meant to be and the moment the woman is empowered, automatically it gets to the children and before you know it, it goes around the family.
“Then getting to the youth, I believe it is better to catch them young. So, when you put the youths right before they get married, to be a wife, they are already also in the line and being a burden to their family will be out of it.
“We’re going to be having a kind of mass area as an empowerment center. In there, we will have the hair salon, the fashion design salon, and a shoemaking salon. We’ll be having a crèche, primary school, we are in church, so it will be a community, it will be a kind of tourist attraction for people to really come in and see what we are doing there,” she added.
CEO of Crown Luxury Properties, Dr Amos Kayode Gbadewole, while bemoaning the high mortality rate in the country, said the initiative would complement government’s efforts in driving needed change in the health sector.
He added that the NGO would begin empowering women in a bid to make them independent, which indirectly would make them uneasily prone to crime.
