The Concerned Nasarawa All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders Forum has called on the National Assembly to intervene in the crisis rocking the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

The crisis in the state assembly escalated on June 8 when 13 factional members passed a resolution during plenary to suspend the 10 other factional members. The two factional speakers involved in the dispute are Ibrahim Balarabe and Daniel Ogazi.

Convener of the Concerned Nasarawa APC Stakeholders Forum, Alh Ibrahim Shuaibu while addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday urged the leadership of the National Assembly to step in and temporarily assume control of the state assembly pending when the crisis is resolved.

He raised concerns over the escalating state of lawlessness and impunity in the State House of Assembly.

Shuaibu highlighted the adverse effects of these actions on the growth of democracy within the state and the entire nation.

Shuaibu said the stakeholders aim to address the State NASS Speakership issues and protect the principles of democracy that are currently under threat.

He expressed deep distress regarding the prevailing culture of impunity and lawlessness that has engulfed the political landscape of Nasarawa State.

He criticised certain individuals who consider themselves invincible, prioritising their personal political interests above the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria.

The convener stressed that such actions should not be condoned, particularly the disregard for due process and the existing court order that prohibits Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe from assuming the role of Speaker of the 7th Assembly in the state.

He also recalled that reception of the Balarabe-led group of Assembly members at the Government House in Lafia.

The convener further urged the state government to hearken to the wise counsel and entreaties from critical stakeholders of the APC and the state, urging him to broker peace between the factions.

Shuaibu stated that action from the group was in direct violation of the existing court order on the assembly matter.

Shuaibu emphasised that the state government continued recognition of the illegitimate actions of the Balarabe group only perpetuated the prevailing illegality.

He said the act was epitome of impunity and lawlessness, further tarnishing the image of Nasarawa State.
