The Niger State government is set to reopen schools closed across the state following attacks by bandits.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago gave the order when he paid a visit to  the Emir of Minna, Alhaji  Umar Farouk Bahago in his palace to commiserate with him over the recent robbery in his palace in  Minna.

He disclosed that schools that had been closed due to insecurity would be reopened and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) would return to their  homes.

The immediate past administration in the state had reopened about 20 schools and turned the boarding schools to day schools, but the governor said all schools would be reopened completely.

While commiserating with the emir over the recent attack on his cashier, he assured  that his administration remained committed to ensuring the security of lives and property.

He also ordered stop and search operations by security agencies in the state in a bid to curb insecurity.

He said; “We are on top of the situation and the perpetrators will be brought to book. We have also given a matching order for stop and search in Minna metropolis and other parts of the state.”

The governor maintained that youth restiveness would not be condoned and advised members of the judiciary against granting bails and pardoning hardened criminals.

The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr. Umar Farouk Bahago, commended the governor for his efforts so far in ensuring the safety of the people,  and urged him  to be more deliberate in taking actions that would make the state a safe haven for all law-abiding and peaceful people.
