Nigerians youths and graduates have been advised to embrace entrepreneurship, vocational skills and information technology to empower themselves.

A former speaker, Ekiti House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gboyega Aribisogan who gave the advice said such will help in addressing unemployment among our youths, make them self- employed and become employers of labour rather than job seekers.

Aribisogan who decried unemployment among the nation’s teeming youths spoke in Ado Ekiti at the commissioning of the African Voice International Training and Development Academy.

The former lawmaker who is the founder of the academy said, “The ever-increasing population of Nigeria juxtaposed with the economic challenges of the country has led to a high rate of unemployment. It has become obvious that the government and the formal private sector cannot provide employment for all youths and graduates in Nigeria today.

“One way to address the problem of unemployment is to equip youths with innovative, creative, vocational and entrepreneurship skills which will enable them not only to become self-employed but also  become employers of labour themselves”.

He disclosed that the academy will take off in providing training in three areas to cover Journalism, Information Technology and Entrepreneurship which will focus on Agric value chain and gradually expand to other areas.

Aribisogan added, “According to experts in Development planning, professionals and vocational education have remained veritable tools that prepare people for employment in a specific occupation or family of occupations by enabling them to develop the competencies needed to excel in their career path.’’
