Perm Sec Links Economic Crisis To Power Challenges

Federal government has said that the power industry remains a critical factor for sustainable development in Nigeria, yet has continued to experience multiple challenges and setbacks over a long period of years which has hindered the required progress for expected economic development.

The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Power, Temitope Fashedemi made this known yesterday in Abuja at the graduation of the pioneer class of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Human Resources (HR) Learning Hub, tagged: “Transforming the Power Sector Through People Development.”

Fashedemi who was the special guest of honour at the event commended the commitment of the power industry stakeholders at the ceremony,  urged them to key into laudable initiatives like the TCN HR Learning Hub and any in the future that will aim at producing competent personnel in the Power industry.

“Let us seek partnerships and collaborations with credible institutions and organizations that can contribute and provide expertise to developing and positioning our people for maximum productivity and efficiency.

“Programmes geared towards people development will instill professionalism and ensure safe and proper activities that mitigate damage to our people, and equipment and in turn, save us tons of money.

“It will ensure consistency and accuracy; it will also promote confidence and efficiency, it will breed best practices and standardization, and build an environment of creativity and innovation, which form key ingredients required for our industry’s transformation,” he said.

Earlier, the executive director/founder of TCN,  Justin Dodo said the essence of the graduation ceremony was to explore the crucial role of human capital in revolutionising the power industry and paving the way for a sustainable future.

“The power sector plays a pivotal role in driving socio-economic growth and improving the quality of life for people and businesses in Nigeria. However, in our pursuit of progress, we must recognize that it is the collective effort of skilled, empowered individuals that truly fuels this transformation. This event serves as a platform to shed light on the significance of people development in propelling the power sector towards greater efficiency, innovation and sustainability.

“Our aim is to harness the power of knowledge and collaboration to identify strategies and best practices for fostering human capital development within the power sector. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by an ever-evolving energy landscape, it becomes increasingly evident that investing in human capital is not just an option but an imperative,” he said.
