As part of measures towards bridging the gap created by the retirement of both the middle and senior officers in the civil service, the Yobe State government has sponsored the training of 76 officers in the directorate and senior officers at strategic positions at the Administration Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Badagry, Lagos.

At the farewell ceremony in his office in Damaturu, the head of the civil service, Alhaji Garba Bilal, said the training was meant to enhance the capacity of the officers for improved service delivery.

Bilal said the administration of governor Mai Mala Buni considers training and retraining as the greatest tool in facing the modern challenges for proper implementation of government policies and programmes.

“Let me use this forum to inform you that one of the important cardinal principles of the administration of His Excellency Hon Mai Mala Buni is to ensure that civil servants are trained because If you are not trained, you cannot perform your duties efficiently and effectively.”

After completion, on your return with the certificates acquired; some of you will automatically be promoted to the next grade level, therefore I urged you to be a good ambassador of the Yobe State,” he said.

Bilal said the government is working on another batch of the participants who would leave for training in the month of August for the training.

The facilitator of the ASCON programme in the Office of the Head of Service, Bulama Yusuf, said the 76 participants from different fields will receive two-week training in Lagos, adding that the government had provided air tickets, accommodation, feeding, training fees and other miscellaneous for them.

“Those to benefit from the training include, 19 participants in Advanced Human Resource, 19 in Middle Management Course, 10 in Administrative Principles, 9 in Treasury Management as well as 19 in Financial Management Course.”

Ya’u Sabo, a participant from the Science and Technical Board commended the administration of Hon Mai Mala Buni for prioritising training and retraining of civil servants.
