A former military governor of old Kwara State, Group Captain Salaudeen Latinwo (rtd), is dead.

The Offa-born Latinwo served as Kwara State governor between 1983 and 1985.

Latinwo was one of the pioneering elite officer cadets recruited into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in 1963.

In a condolence message on Saturday, the Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, commiserated with the people of the state, especially Offa community, over the death of Latinwo.

AbdulRazaq, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, described Latinwo’s death as a sad occurrence and a big void in the crop of great statesmen whose well of wisdom and experience is invaluable.

“On behalf of the AbdulRazaqs, the government and people of Kwara State, the governor sends his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late military administrator, the Offa community, and the military establishment on this development,” the Government House statement said.

“The governor prays to Allaah to repose the soul of the former leader in Al-jannah and uphold his family and the community he left behind,” the statement added.

Also, in his condolence message, the Emir of Ilorin, Alh Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, described the demise of Latinwo as a great loss to the state and Nigeria at large.

Sulu-Gambari, in a statement signed by his spokesman, Abdulaziz Arowona, described Latinwo as a gallant Air Force officer who governed Kwara State diligently.

The Emir further described the deceased as an advocate of war against indiscipline and corruption, which was the hallmark of the Buhari/Idiagbon-led military government in the country.
